clothes and borrowing: a short thought

for me, and the friends i surround myself with. i think we all see clothes or getting dressed up as a very intimate way of expressing oursleves. and i believe, at least for my genre of person, that all comes from being a young girl/boy... we feel our childhoods through it. the way we wished we could dress as kids. seeing our older sisters and brothers, or random people in the world. dressed in an instantly inspiring way. being in awe of every cool girl or boy we ever saw and hoping we end up that way, giving us a weird excitement to be older, maybe for the purpose of finally expressing oursleves, as most of the time we arent allowed to as a child. especially if you come from an immigrant background/eastern culture. we grow into these repressed adults that are finally free to be themsleves and a lot of that is expressed through clothing. because we seek to relate and find others like us. so when me and my friends see something in eachothers closets that we want to borrow. soemthing that incites my childhood wish to be a cool adult. theres such a deep connection there, even though its such a small thing. and it may seem silly to say all this but i think it means that when we were both young, we were inspired by the same things, we saw the same kinds of teenagers, the same kind of movies aligned with the same characters and kept it in our mind for the future. i think thats so awesome and it solidifies my friendships so deeply in my mind. borrowing clothes is so intimate and romantic to me. if i ever borrow your clothes its because i love you.
